Ashish Kumar, Engineering Manager, Google

No picture of  Ashish  Kumar Ashish Kumar is an Engineering Manager at Google and has about 20 years of experience leading and managing software development teams.   Since he joined Google in 2008, he has been responsible for steering and managing the 100+ Engineering Tools team that builds tools for most engineers at Google.  The Tools team builds systems and developer infrastructure to enable the rapid and high-quality development at Google – including Source Control, Build System, Code Review and Development Tools, Test Tools and Infrastructure, and others.

Prior to joining Google, Ashish was VP of Engineering at Agitar Software, a Sequoia and NEA backed company, that build automatic unit test generation products for Java, eventually acquired by McCabe Software in 2008.  Previously Ashish was Director of Engineering at Sun Microsystems, responsible for leading the iPlanet and then SunOne Application and Web Servers.  While at Sun, Ashish also seeded the original growth for Sun’s India Engineering Center in Bangalore, by hiring the first 100+ product engineering team for the iPlanet Application and Web Servers.  Before managing the Application Server team, Ashish held several management and technical contributor roles in SunLabs (SunTest), and in the SMCC teams.  Ashish has also co-founded two startups in the past.  He has worked on developing software ranging from anti-virus software for the PC in the late 80s, kernel device drivers for tape jukeboxes, going all the way up the stack to application software for businesses.
